Seasonal Tips from Our Chiropractor

Sports tips for a pain free summerNow that you have clear, sunny skies and more hours of daylight, you may feel more than ready to jump into your favorite sporting activities -- but is your body ready to accommodate your enthusiasm? Once spring turns to summer, sports injuries abound. Here are some tips to help you avoid these painful problems, courtesy of your friends at Nichols Chiropractic:

Work on your swing - Tennis and golf players are pone to tendonitis in the elbow joint. This inflammation is a kind of overuse injury, but flaws in your technique may be the underlying cause of that overuse. Check your technique with a coach, and have your spinal alignment examined for possible balance problems, to make sure you are not inviting injury.

Warm up (gently) - Throwing yourself into grueling athletic activity without first warming up may lead to a strained quad, injured ACL or pulled hamstring. Be careful in your warmup routine, otherwise you may cause the precise injury you wish to avoid.

Wear the right shoes- If you exert yourself in shoes lacking the proper arch support, you may suffer from a painful inflammation of the foot's connective tissues known as plantar fasciitis. A misaligned body can also contribute to this problem by distributing your body weight unevenly.

Watch your back - Any sport that repeatedly jars your spinal column can cause back pain by throwing your vertebrae and their discs out of alignment. Make sure your spine is in good shape before your sports season begins.
