Manhattan Chiropractor Uses the Webster
Technique to Help Expectant Mothers with Pregnancy
The Webster Technique is a
specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment of the pelvis, including the sacrum and sacroiliac joints,as well as
the surrounding ligaments for pregnant women. The purpose of the Webster Technique
is to reduce the interference to the nervous system and enhance the overall neuro-biomechanical function of the pelvis and its surrounding muscles and ligaments. Theoretically,
this can result in a reduction in pain experienced throughout pregnancy,
decrease tension in the uterus, and allow for optimal positioning of the baby
for delivery.
Expectant mothers will undergo many changes in their
bodies throughout pregnancy; alterations in their center of gravity, weight,
posture, and hormones make them more prone to spinal misalignments and
imbalances of certain muscles and ligaments. This combination can lead to many
aches and pains felt throughout pregnancy. Common conditions seen during
pregnancy include low back pain, mid-back pain, neck pain, and headaches, as
well as pelvic ligamentous pain and leg pain/sciatica.
Being a Certified Webster Technique Practitioner,
Dr. Gascon uses this technique to help restore balance in the mother’s
pelvis, muscles and ligaments, alleviate their pain, and allow them to have a
more comfortable pregnancy. Many mothers who receive care report having
significantly less pain after treatment and experience better sleep at
night.
